File download servlet does not work on ie8

 · I m using content disposition to download pdf file from my servlet. My code works fine for chrome, firefox and IE but the problem is when I try to download pdf file using opera, it removes pdf extension and adds htm. The following is my code.  · Problem: While IE 7 - Tools - Internet Options - Security - Custom Level - Downloads - Automatic prompting for file downloads is Disabled and while pop-up window get opened, I am unable to download the file (Save/Open prompt is not comming up). In contrast, when I enable this option, I am able to download.  · When I execute the same Servlet over HTTPS only firefox continues to download the csv file over HTTPS. I don't think this is necessarily an Internet 6 or 7 issue described on MSDN: The message is: Internet Explorer cannot download bltadwin.ru from bltadwin.ru Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site.

I think I was hoping for some obscure browser setting to explain why IE11 and Edge don't work and the other browsers do. Archive files like zip, tar, gzip etc. will always be downloaded. Some file types show up in some browsers but not others depending on if the browser can read the file or not.
